Stefan Burkhardt

was born in Leipzig, where he got first piano lessons at the age of seven. Sixteen year old he started his studies at Leipzig academy of music with Herbert Sahling und Joel Shapiro. He also got lessons in conducting by Günther Blumhagen.

He graduated summa cum laude, was awarded a Citibank-scholarship and thus joined Juilliard School in New York where he was taught by Jerome Lowenthal. Back in Leipzig he continued his studies as post graduate student of Joel Shapiro while absolving additional studies in conducting with Gert Bahner.

He held concerts in Germany, major cities of Europe and the USA. Along others he played with Gewandhaus Orchestra under Stefan Soltesz and MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi and Heinz Wallberg.

In international competitions he gained many 1st prices, was European winner of Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1994 and finalist in New York. In 1995 he was awarded the Citibank Studienpreis Musik. Stefan Burkhardt has got numerous awards and further scholarships, for example of Jürgen-Ponto-Foundation and German National Academic Foundation.
